How do you view training and health?
Training is fundamental. A necessary foundation for cognitive and physical performance and for general well-being.
Training for me is balm for the soul and important for me to have both distance and appreciation for rest and recovery.
Balance simply.
Do you have a routine that you recommend before a workout to perform at your peak?
A routine that spans weeks is best.
Sleep deep and long.
Eat well and healthy.
Stretch gently and train hard.
And just before the workout - Don't skimp on the warm-up.
What are your best recovery tips after a tough workout or competition?
Good food and good company. Nothing restores the nervous system like a good laugh.
On the days you don't feel like working out, what motivates you to do it anyway?
A deep understanding of my own "why".
My "why" for why I train is broad and complex, yet simple.
I want to feel good, feel good and live like that for a long time.
I always want to feel ready for any physical challenge that may come if needed and always feel that my body is ready for whatever I am faced with.
Everyone should take a moment to think and find out their why so that you can always retreat to yourself for answers when the wind of doubt blows.
Which shoe from Topo is your favorite and why?
Right now, with health, many miles and many laughs, I've worn out a pair of Phantom 3s and loved every meter of the journey.
Why?
Because it's a great shoe and the fit is actually made for real feet and not like other shoes - for what shoe manufacturers WANT feet to be.
Next up is a pair of Specter 2's and I'm so excited to try out the Pebax midsole. Think it will fit like a glove when I run HYROX in December!
I also like MAGNIFLY 4 because 0 drops. Absolutely wonderful!
