Topo Athletic Ultraventure 5 GTX for men: waterproof trail shoe with GORE-TEX
Ultraventure 5 GTX is Ultraventure 5 with a GORE-TEX membrane. The upper has GORE-TEX Invisible Fit, which keeps out rain, mud and snow. Midsole, stack height and drop are the same as in Ultraventure 5. The shoe is made for trail running and hiking in wet weather, on routes that mix trail, gravel and road. A neutral shoe without a rock plate, with a universal gaiter attachment.
How Ultraventure 5 GTX is built
ZipFoam midsole, 35/30 mm. High cushioning and the same platform as Ultraventure 5.
GORE-TEX Invisible Fit upper. The membrane is bonded directly to the upper instead of sitting like an inner sock. According to GORE-TEX, the fit is the same as in a shoe without a membrane, and the toe box is not affected.
Vibram outsole. The same lug pattern and depth as Ultraventure 5, for trail, gravel and road.
Roomy toe box. A foot-shaped last where your toes have room to spread. Secure fit through the midfoot and heel.
Universal gaiter attachment. Hook-and-loop at the heel for Topo gaiters, sold separately.
OrthoLite insole.
Ultraventure 5 GTX suits you if you
run or hike on trails in rain, on wet ground and in the cold and want dry feet
hike in low-cut shoes and want cushioning and room for your toes
run from home, over road and gravel, out onto the trail
want a neutral trail shoe with a low drop
The difference from Ultraventure 5
The midsole, the 35/30 mm stack height and the 5 mm drop are the same. The GTX model has a GORE-TEX Invisible Fit upper. The membrane also makes the shoe warmer, and Road Trail Run's tester sees it as a great option for winter.
